History

Since its establishment in 2010, Fatih Sultan Mehmet Foundation University has been supporting the needs of both academicians and students for research and development with the necessary incentives, grants, laboratory infrastructure, academic permits, project support centers, student and thesis consultancy, libraries, databases and technological facilities. Our university, which has been graduating from the Preschool Education Master's Program for the last three years, wants to train academicians who will ensure the qualified education of the future generations of our country by conducting a Doctorate Program in this field with its academic equipment.

Qualification Awarded
Graduates of the program are awarded the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degree in Early Childhood Education.
This degree signifies the holder’s ability to conduct independent research, generate original knowledge in the field, and contribute to the academic and professional development of early childhood education through teaching, research, and leadership.

Higher Grade Transition
Graduates who successfully complete the Doctoral Program in Early Childhood Education may pursue post-doctoral research, academic positions (as faculty members, researchers, or consultants), or leadership roles in educational policy and research institutions.
They can also continue their professional careers as project coordinators, researchers, or educational policy advisors in national and international organizations.

Graduation Requirements
Total Number of Credits Required
The doctoral program based on master's degree consists of 8 semesters of education, proficiency exam and thesis study. The maximum completion period for students admitted with a master's degree with thesis is twelve semesters. The maximum time to successfully complete the credit courses required for the doctoral program is four semesters for those admitted with a master's degree with thesis. Students who fail to successfully complete the credited courses within this period and whose GPA is not at least 3.00 out of 4.00 are dismissed from the University.
The doctoral program consists of at least 240 ECTS credits, including at least 7 graduate courses, seminar, thesis proposal, qualifying exam and thesis study, provided that it is not less than 21 credits and 60 ECTS for an education period for students accepted with a master's degree with thesis. Each student takes the seminar course from his/her advisor. Advisor assignment must be completed at the beginning of the third semester at the latest.
In order for a student to be considered successful in a course, the final grade of that course must be at least BB. Students are required to complete their courses in maximum 4 semesters.
In order for the student to enter the thesis defense, he / she must have 1 article from his / her thesis work accepted for publication in a national or international refereed journal, ready for publication or published, or two leading national or international conference papers must be accepted.

Graduates of the Doctoral Program in Early Childhood Education have career opportunities in various professional fields such as educational consultancy, school management, educational policy development, research, special education expertise, curriculum development and working in non-governmental organizations, as well as an academic career in early childhood education. They can also take part in educational technology and international education projects, and find opportunities to produce innovative solutions in social development and education. Graduates contribute to the world of education as qualified experts in all aspects of preschool education.

Assessment and Grading
Written Exams Written exams, which measure students' theoretical knowledge of a particular subject, are used to test students' grasp of basic concepts, analytical thinking and problem solving skills.
Midterm and Final Exams: Midterm exams, usually given in the middle of the course, and final exams at the end of the course assess whether students have a comprehensive knowledge of the course content. These exams cover topics such as theories of early childhood education, pedagogical approaches, developmental psychology.
Research Projects and Seminar Presentations: Students are expected to develop an original research project by applying the theoretical knowledge learned in the courses in practice. The projects are important in order to measure the student's research skills and analytical thinking. These projects are usually supported by written reports and in-class presentations.
Thesis Work: The thesis is the most important assessment tool that students prepare before completing their PhD. The thesis demonstrates the student's research and scientific writing skills and the level of compliance with the standards of academic writing. In this process, students are expected to conduct independent research, review the literature, generate new data and place these data in an academic context.
