History
The Department of Translation and Interpreting at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University (FSMVU) commenced its academic activities in the 2021–2022 academic year.
Qualification Awarded
Students who successfully complete the program are awarded a “Bachelor’s Degree in Translation and Interpreting.”
Admission Requirements
Admission to the program is based on the results of the National Higher Education Entrance Examination (YKS) and in accordance with the regulations set by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). International applicants are admitted in line with the university’s specific application and evaluation criteria.
Higher Grade Transition
Graduates who successfully complete the undergraduate program are eligible to apply for master's and doctoral programs in related fields, provided they meet the admission requirements.
Graduation Requirements
In order to obtain a bachelor's degree from the department, students must enroll in and successfully complete all required courses in the four-year curriculum, as well as a specified number of elective courses within and outside the field. At the end of the four-year program, students must have earned at least 240 ECTS credits.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Thanks to the strong ties our faculty members maintain with the professional world, our Translation and Interpreting graduates have a wide range of career opportunities. They can work in media institutions (such as the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), Anadolu Agency, private TV channels, newspapers, and news agencies), at the Presidency for EU Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Ministry, and the National Intelligence Organization; in the foreign affairs departments of banks; in hospitals and community centers; at international conferences and meetings; in publishing houses (as translators or editors); in localization projects (as project managers or translators); as sworn translators at notary offices; in translation agencies; or in second-language teaching programs. They may also choose to establish their own translation businesses.
In an increasingly globalized and digitalized world, our goal is to train socially conscious, ethically responsible multilingual communication experts who are knowledgeable about international affairs, capable of addressing current and future global challenges, able to pursue advanced academic research, and equipped to compete in both the public and private sectors.
Assessment and Grading
Assessment and evaluation are carried out through written and oral examinations, projects and assignments, presentations, practical translation tasks, and continuous performance-based evaluation, in accordance with the assessment methods specified for each course. The grading system follows the relevant undergraduate regulations of FSMVU.
